چکیده

Abstract. Ice-core timescales are vital for the understanding of past climate; hence they should be updated whenever significant amounts new data become available. Here, Greenland ice-core chronology GICC05 was revised last 3835 years by synchronizing six deep ice cores and three shallow from central sheet. A method applied combining automated counting annual layers on multiple parallel proxies manual fine-tuning. layer bias found in all because site-specific signal disturbances; therefore comparison deemed necessary to increase timescale accuracy. A new Greenland ice core chronology for the last glacial termination

We present a new common stratigraphic time scale for the NGRIP and GRIP ice cores. The time scale covers the period 7.9–14.8 ka before present, and includes the Bølling, Allerød, Younger Dryas, and Early Holocene periods. We use a combination of new and previously published data, the most prominent being new high resolution Continuous Flow Analysis (CFA) impurity records from the NGRIP ice core...

A tentative chronology for the EPICA Dome Concordia ice core

A tentative age scale (EDC1) for the last 45 kyr is established for the new 788-m EPICA Dome C ice core using a simple ice flow model. The age of volcanic eruptions, the end of the Younger Dryas event, and the estimated depth and age of elevated Be, about 41 kyr ago were used to calibrate the model parameters. The uncertainty of EDC1 is estimated to ± 10 yr for 0 to 700 yr BP, up to ± 200 yr ba...

The EDC3 chronology for the EPICA Dome C ice core

The EPICA (European Project for Ice Coring in Antarctica) Dome C drilling in East Antarctica has now been completed to a depth of 3260 m, at only a few meters above bedrock. Here we present the new EDC3 chronology, which is based on the use of 1) a snow accumulation and mechanical flow model, and 2) a set of independent age markers along the core. These are obtained by pattern matching of recor...

The Greenland Ice Core Chronology 2005 , 15 – 42 ka . Part 1 : constructing the time scale

The Greenland Ice Core Chronology 2005, GICC05, is extended back to 42 ka b2k (before 2000 AD), i.e. to the end of Greenland Stadial 11. The chronology is based on independent multi-parameter counting of annual layers using comprehensive high-resolution measurements available from the North Greenland Ice Core Project, NGRIP. These are measurements of visual stratigraphy, conductivity of the sol...

The Greenland Ice Core Chronology 2005, 15–42 ka. Part 2: comparison to other records

A new Greenland Ice Core Chronology (GICC05) based on multi-parameter counting of annual layers has been obtained for the last 42 ka. Here we compare the glacial part of the new time scale, which is based entirely on records from the NorthGRIP ice core, to existing time scales and reference horizons covering the same period. These include the GRIP and NorthGRIP modelled time scales, the MeeseSo...
